Persian Marzipan Candy, also known as Toot in Farsi, is one of the most popular Persian sweets served during Nowruz (Persian New Year). This no-bake treat is delicious, festive, and incredibly easy to make with just five simple ingredients. It combines the rich flavors of almonds and rosewater with a hint of cardamom.

To prepare it, combine finely ground almonds, icing sugar, cardamom, and rosewater until a soft dough forms. Shape small portions into mulberry-like pieces, roll them in granulated sugar, and insert a sliver of pistachio as a stem. This beautiful, bite-sized treat is perfect for celebrating the Persian New Year.

Toot (Persian Marzipan Candy)

Yield: Serves 6

Ingredients:
  • 1 2/3 cups unsalted slivered almonds, about 170 g
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 4-5 tablespoons white sugar
  • 4 tablespoons rosewater
  • slivered pistachios
Instructions:

Grind almonds into a fine powder using a food processor.

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground almonds, icing sugar, and cardamom. Gradually add rosewater and mix until a soft dough forms.

Spread white sugar on a plate.

Shape small pieces of dough into mulberries, roll them in the sugar, and insert a pistachio sliver as a stem.

Repeat until all the dough is used. Store in an airtight container.
